Hayley Feindel struck out 13 in game one as the Bears clinched the NEWMAC regular season championship.
SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(4/18/10)--Sophomore Hayley Feindel allowed six hits and one run while striking out 13 and not walking a batter as Coast Guard clinched its second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship with a 4-1 win over Springfield in the first game of a doubleheader. The Pride took advantage of three consecutive Coast Guard errors in the seventh to beat the Bears 4-3 in the nightcap.

Coast Guard, ranked third in New England, will host the NEWMAC tournament next weekend. The Bears first game of the tournament will be at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Bears will play the winner of the #4 Wellesley vs. #5 Clark, which will be played at Coast Guard at 2:30 p.m.

Springfield finishes as the #2 seed and will open the tournament at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Pride will play the winner of the #3 Babson vs. #6 Wheaton, which will be played at Springfield at 2:30 p.m.

Coast Guard scored in the top of the first of the opener on an RBI groundout by freshman Holli Bastinck scoring sophomore Maddie Buchert, who led off the game with a single.

The Bears added two runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Bastinck scoring Buchert, who led off with a walk, before junior Becky Miller scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead. Coast Guard scored another in the sixth and it was Buchert scoring again as she doubled and scored on a single by sophomore Jamie Kim for a 4-0 lead.

Springfield broke up the shutout in the seventh on a leadoff homer by Breann Joyce.
The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third in game two. Bastinck’s RBI triple scored Buchert, who led off with a single in the first and junior Amanda Frederick’s sacrifice fly scored Buchert, who walked to lead off the third inning.

Springfield took the lead with three runs in the fourth as Bryn Worrilow had a two-run double and Amanda Novak gave the Pride the lead with an RBI single.

Coast Guard tied the game in the top of the fifth on a homer to left by Frederick and the score remained tied until the three straight errors gave the Pride the win in the seventh.

Feindel (24-7) allowed seven hits and three earned runs and did not walk a batter while striking out nine in game two.

Buchert had three hits and scored five runs while senior Carin Sweeney had four hits in the doubleheader for the Bears.

Bastinck, Buchert and Miller each had two hits in the opener for the Bears while freshman Stacia Sarwinski had a pair of hits in game two for Coast Guard.
