 Amanda Frederick hit .520 and drove in 12 runs to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/12/10)--Junior catcher Amanda Frederick has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball Player of the Week as the Bears won all four conference games and took over first place in the NEWMAC.
Frederick had a huge week as the Bears, ranked fourth in New England, went 5-2 overall and improved to 11-1 in the conference with four wins.
She hit .520 (13 for 25) with three doubles, two homers, six runs scored and 12 RBI's. She also posted an .880 slugging percentage. Frederick hit a pair of homers and drove in five runs as the Bears handed Babson its first two conference losses of the season on Saturday.
Frederick leads the team with a .420 batting average, 37 hits, 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, 28 RBI’s, a .448 on base percentage and a .648 slugging percentage this season.
Coast Guard, which won its first NEWMAC regular season championship last season, is now 27-1-1 in its last 29 conference games dating back to the 2008 season and the Bears have a two-game lead with four games left in the conference schedule this season.
The Bears, who won a school-record 39 games (39-7-1) and went to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history last season and advanced to the New England region championship game, are currently 21-6 and will host Mitchell in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. |
