Maddie Buchert had six hits, including three doubles a homer and drove in five runs in the sweep.
NORTHAMPTON, MASS.--(4/9/10)--Coast Guard’s offense exploded for 29 runs as the Bears easily swept a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader from Smith. The Bears won the opener 20-1 in five innings before winning the nightcap 9-0.

Sophomore Maddie Buchert and junior Amanda Frederick led the 23 hit attack in the opener as each of them were 4 for 5. Buchert had a pair of doubles, a homer and three RBI’s while Frederick scored three runs and drove in another.

Coast Guard (19-7, 9-1), ranked fourth in New England, scored nine times in the third with senior Courtney Wolf blasting a three-run homer, one of her three hits in the game, while Buchert added a two-run shot in the inning.

Junior Becky Miller also homered in the game one win while freshman Corrine Hartwell ripped a three-run triple in the first at-bat of her career in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Hayley Feindel went the five innings and allowed three hits and an earned run while striking out nine.

In game two, Feindel fired a two-hit shutout with one walk and eight strikeouts and Buchert, Frederick, Wolf and junior Anna Funk each drove in a pair of runs in the 9-0 win.

Buchert and Funk each had a double and two hits in game two.

Coast Guard will travel to Babson for a first place showdown in the NEWMAC tomorrow at noon. The Beavers are unbeaten at 6-0 in conference action this season.
