STORRS, CONN.--(4/2/10)--The CGA men’s crew took on Division III powerhouse Trinity and a strong UConn team.
The CGA varsity got off of the line quickly and raced the best race so far this season. Joe DiRenzo, Austin King, Tom Olsen, Brian Bonomi, Phil Constantino, Kris Kesting, Steve Suggs, Dan Swaim and Andrew Slater rowed to a second place finish. They were 16 seconds behind Trinity and 40 seconds ahead of the UConn eight.
The men's second varsity 8 race was a four boat race against Trinity's 2V, 3V and UConn's 2V. The Bears were quick off the line and went to work chasing Trinity's 2V. The Bears held second place for the first 1500 meters, but Trinity's 3V slipped past in the last 500 meters to put the bears into third by 1.78 seconds. Crew members: Cox: William Rimmler, Stroke: Jacob Conrad, Erich Dix, George Greendyk, Sam Merritt, Geoffrey Pringle, Colin Schembri, Connor Stevens, Bow: Stephen Atwell.
The CGA V4 came off the line in good position and was even with crews from Trinity and UConn at the 1000 meter mark. CGA increased stroke rate and moved away from the other two crews to take the lead briefly after the 1000 meter mark but was unable to fend of the other two crews as the field approached the finish line. CGA came in third about a length behind the other two boats. The CGA boat was crewed by Dan Jones, Tyler Patrick, Chris Bodner, John Olbrys and Lydia Monks.
On Saturday, the Bears will take on Colby and UMass-Lowell.
