NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/5/10)--In a showdown of two of the top teams in New England, Coast Guard and Eastern Connecticut split a non-conference doubleheader.

Eastern Connecticut, ranked first in New England and 14th nationally, won the opener 3-2 in eight innings before the Bears, ranked third in New England, won game two 4-2 to salvage the split.

In game two, freshman Stacia Sarwinski highlighted a three-run fourth with a two-run single before an RBI single by sophomore Maddie Buchert gave the Bears a 3-0 lead.

Eastern scored twice in the fifth before Coast Guard added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by senior Carin Sweeney, who was 3 for 3 in the nightcap.

Sophomore Hayley Feindel went the distance in game two to pickup the win after taking the loss in the opener. Feindel allowed six hits and two runs while fanning four in the game two win.

In the opener, junior Amanda Frederick tied the game 2-2 with a two-run double in the sixth before the Bears fell in eight innings.
