NORTON, MASS.--(4/3/10)--Wheaton swept a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader from Coast Guard as the Lyons won the opener 16-0 before winning the second game 13-5.
The Lyons, winners of nine of their last 10, improve to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play while Coast Guard, which has dropped nine straight, drops to 4-13 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC.
In the opener, Wheaton jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and outhit the Bears 18-2 in the win. Freshman Riley Beecher (1-2) allowed ten earned runs in the first three innings to take the loss.
In game two, Wheaton exploded for six runs in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead and end the afternoon for Coast Guard starter Jesse Karr (0-5), who took the loss. He worked four innings and allowed eight earned runs.
Senior John Jeffares, sophomore Chris Izurieta and freshman Riley Beecher each had two hits for the Bears in game two.
