Women's Basketball - Martinelli Earns Pair of All-Region Honors
Melissa Martinelli earned a pair of All-Region selections.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/17/10)--Senior Melissa Martinelli, the Bears all-time leading scorer and rebounder, earned a pair of All-region honors on Wednesday.
She was named to the D3hoops.com and New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-region second team. Martinelli makes her third straight appearance on the D3hoops.com after earning first team honors the past two seasons. She earns NEWBA honors for the second straight season after being a first team selection last year.
Martinelli was named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball All-conference first team for the third straight season. She was the 2007 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.
She led the NEWMAC this season in scoring (19.4), rebounding (8.5) as well as free throw percentage (.747) and she was fifth in conference in field goal percentage (.481).
This season, she had 20 or more points in 11 games with seven double-doubles.
Melissa leaves the Academy as the Bears all-time leading scorer with 1,853 points and the all-time leading rebounder with 906 rebounds in her brilliant career.
Martinelli was named the NEWMAC Player of the Week three times during the season.
Coast Guard finished 7-18 overall and 4-14 in league play.
