 Ariana Pourmonir was one of nine student-athletes named to the NEWMAC All-Academic team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/15/10)--Coast Guard placed nine student athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) 2009-2010 Winter All-Academic team.
The men’s swimming and diving team led the way with four members, the women’s swimming team placed three on the team while the women’s basketball team also had two student athletes honored.
Juniors Mike Carman (Operations Research/Computer Analysis), Jared Hylander (Mechanical Engineering) and Eric Schwartz (Operations Research/Computer Analysis) along with sophomore Jeff Mistrick (Mechanical Engineering) were named from the men’s swim team.
Seniors Sarah Hohnstadt (Mechanical Engineering), Ariana Pourmonir (Marine and Environmental Sciences) and sophomore Katie Cappetta (Mechanical Engineering) represented the women’s swimming and diving team.
Junior Jessica Anderson (Marine and Environmental Sciences) and sophomore Rebekah Seifer (Marine and Environmental Sciences) were named from the Coast Guard women’s basketball team.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2009 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his or her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The NEWMAC consists of ten highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
