Riley Beecher allowed just two hits and a pair of earned runs in six innings to win in his collegiate debut.
FORT MYERS, FLA.--(3/8/10)--Coast Guard scored six runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth capping a come-from-behind 13-6 win over rival Merchant Marine in the third game of a three-game set at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Coast Guard freshman Riley Beecher and Merchant Marine sophomore Mark Thiboldeaux were locked up in a pitchers duel and Merchant Marine led 3-2 after six innings, with all five runs in the game being unearned. Beecher allowed just one hit through six innings and Thiboldeaux allowed two hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The turning point of the game was a fly ball by freshman Cameron Carroll with the bases loaded with appeared to be a sacrifice fly, which would have tied the game. The ball was dropped and two runs scored opening the flood gates for the Bears. Freshman Tyler Babkiewich scored on wild pitch, junior Jared Korn added an RBI single, senior Doug Piper drove in a run with a ground out and junior Graham Sherman walked with the bases loaded for the sixth run of the inning and an 8-3 lead.

Merchant Marine (1-2) scored three in the seventh and had a fourth run thrown out at the plate by Korn as the Bears held an 8-6 edge after seven innings.

Coast Guard (2-2) scored five more in the eighth as Babkiewich led off with a triple, scored on an RBI single by Cameron. Korn drove in a run on a fielders choice, Korn and Beecher scored on a wild pitches before freshman Ed Sella drew a walk with the bases loaded for the final run of the game.

Junior Ben Barrett allowed one hit in the seventh and freshman Tyler Vieira allowed just one hit while striking out three over the final two innings as the Bears won the three-game series, 2-1.

Beecher worked six innings and allowed just two hits, six runs, just two earned while walking five and striking out seven to pickup the win in his collegiate debut.

Babkiewich had a double and triple with three runs scored while freshman Nolan Gallagher, making his first appearance of the season, had two hits including a double for the Bears.
