Men's Swimming - Poehler Named Rookie of the Year
Nick Poehler earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors with an outstanding performance this weekend.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/1/10)--Freshman Nick Poehler was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Swimming Rookie of the Year as he posted three NCAA “B” cut times, won the conference championship in the 800 freestyle relay and earned All-conference honors with second place finishes in two other events at the NEWMAC Championships this past weekend.
Poehler teammed with Brian McGuiness, Alex Brown and Eric Schwartz to win the 800 freestyle relay with a school-record and an NCAA “B” cut time of 6:52.26.
He also took took second in the 500 freestyle with an NCAA “B” cut time of 4:38.08 and placed second in the 1,650 freestyle with an NCAA “B” cut time of 16:10.29.
Coast Guard placed second at the meet for the second straight season. The Bears won the NEWMAC Championship three straight years from 2006-2008.
