 Brian McGuiness took second in the 200 meters and was part of the 800 free relay which won and set a school-record. NORTON, MASS.--(2/27/10)--Junior Alex Brown won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.40 and sophomore Brian McGuiness took second with a time of 1:43.81 and both were part of a the winning 800 freestyle relay for the Bears, who remain in 2nd place after the second day of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Wheaton College.
McGuiness, Brown, junior Eric Schwartz and freshman Nick Poehler won the 800 freestyle relay with a school-record and an NCAA “B” cut time of 6:52.26.
Defending champion MIT increased its lead and the Engineers now have 715 points, 98 more than the Bears with 617.
The Bears 200 medley relay team of senior Timmy Berry, sophomore Matt Odom, junior Dan Alley and sophomore Johnson Knox placed second with a time of 1:35.21.
The top two finishers in each event earn All-conference honors.
Also for the Bears, freshman Kevin Smit took third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.79 while teammates, freshman Tanner Armstrong (4:17.96) and junior Jared Hylander (4:19.64) placed fourth and fifth in the event.
The NEWMAC Championship will conclude tomorrow.
