WELLESLEY, MASS.--(2/3/10)--Wellesley held Coast Guard to just one basket in the final five minutes and shot 60 percent from 3-point range and beat the Bears 67-52 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Wellesley led 51-48 with 5:06 left and outscored the Bears 16-4 to close out the game.

Senior Melissa Martinelli led all scorers with 27 points in the loss for Coast Guard, a night after scoring 32 points, 29 in the second half of a win over rival Connecticut College. She was nine of 13 from the floor and nine of 12 from the foul line.

Coast Guard (5-13, 3-10) used a 14-2 run, the final nine points by Martinelli to erase an early six-point deficit and take its largest lead of the game, 22-16, with 7:42 left in the first half.

Wellesley scored six straight to tie the game and then with the score 28-28, the Blue scored the final five points of the half to take a 33-28 lead at the break.

The Blue pushed the lead to 48-38 with 8:24 left before the Bears ran off seven straight, five by sophomore Rebecca Seifer and a layup by freshman Karli Collins with 6:41 left to cut the lead to 48-45.

Wellesley (7-11, 5-8) shot 47.1 percent from the field (20-48) while making nine of 15 from 3-point range while Coast Guard hit on 20 of 48 from the floor (41.7 percent) and made three of eight from 3-point range.

Collins led the Bears with ten rebounds while Martinelli added eight.
