 Josh Wofford won the 400 meters and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/30/10)--A trio of juniors qualified for the Division III New England Championships and won their events as the Bears won the Coast Guard Invitational.
Coast Guard finished with 222 points to beat Westfield State (161.5), Trinity (136) and Eastern Connecticut (87.5).
Junior Devin Adams won the weight throw with a toss of 51 feet, 6.25 inches, junior John Jaskot won the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and classmate Josh Wofford won the 400 meters (51.26) as all three qualified for the Division III New England Championships. Jaskot improved his qualifying leap after going 6 feet, 3.25 inches last week.
Junior Andrew Price won the mile (4:34.06) as the Bears took the top five spots in the event with sophomore Trevor Siperek placing second (4:37.33) and sophomore Trevor Auth taking third (4:37.61).
The Bears 4x400 relay team of junior Kyle Coleman, junior David Boyle, junior Jesse Cremeans and Wofford won with a time of 3:30.47 while the 4x800 relay team of senior Chris Marquis, junior Nate Crum, senior Mike Mrkvicka and Auth won in 8:24.18. Mrkvicka also won the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.52.
Freshman Ian Sankey took second in the pole vault (12 feet, 3.25 inches), classmate Tieran Bonner was second in the 200 meters (23.69) and junior Matt Tolliver placed second in both the long jump (20 feet, 10.75 inches) and the triple jump (42 feet, 1.5 inches).
