Eric Hudson has a huge second half in the come-from-behind win.
BABSON PARK, MASS.--(1/30/10)--Senior Eric Hudson had 11 of his game-high 15 points in the second half and a trio of freshmen led a key 9-0 run late in the second half as Coast Guard battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit to beat Babson 62-55 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard shot 60 percent in the second half (15-25) with junior Jevon James having nine of his 11 points in the half.
Babson (9-10, 2-5) led 46-41 following a 3-pointer by Matt Florio with 8:15 left in the game before the Bears scored nine straight to take a 50-46 lead with 5:20 left. A trio of freshman, Jimmy Knudsen, Ed Gailor and Greg Marshall accounted for the final three hoops of the run. Knudsen and Gailor had back-to-back steals and layups before Marshall capped the run on a 3-pointer.
Hudson accounted for the Bears next five points before junior Adam Radtke’s key 3-pointer with 53 seconds left gave the Bears a 58-52 lead.
Marshall and Gailor each knocked down a pair of free throws in the final 15 seconds to ice the win for the Bears.
Hudson, who led the Bears with 15 points, five rebounds and a season-high six assists was huge in second half as he had 11 points, four rebounds and five assists in the second stanza.
Coast Guard (7-10, 4-3) had its largest lead of the first half as junior Brett Huntley hit his second 3-pointer of the half giving the Bears a 12-7 lead with 11:2 9 left.
The Bears maintained that five-point lead at 16-11 with 6:02 left in the half before Babson used a 11-2 run to take a 22-18 lead with 3:24 left following a layup by Matt Florio.
Babson scored the final five points of the half and led 29-22 at the break despite hitting just one of 10 from 3-point range in the first 20 minutes.
Coast Guard shot 50 percent from the floor (23 of 46) while making four of nine from 3-point range. Babson shot 37.3 percent (19-51) while making three of 15 from behind the arc.
Florio and Kris Noonan each had 11 points to lead Babson.
