NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/27/10)--Brown University transfer sophomore Noel Hollingsworth led all scorers with 25 points leading No. 14 MIT to a 78-58 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

MIT (17-2, 5-1) was red hot from the floor shooting 59.3 percent in the first half while making eight of 12 from 3-point range (66.7 percent) and led 45-37 at the break. The Engineers shot 56.3 percent for the game (27-48) while making 11 of 23 from 3-point range led by a four for five performance from senior Billy Johnson, who finished with 12 points.

Coast Guard also shot it well in the opening 20 minutes hitting on 15 of 29 from the floor (51.7 percent), but the Bears shot just 27.6 percent (8-29) in the second half and finished at 39.7 percent (23-58) on the night.

MIT had its largest lead of the first half at 43-30 with 3:09 left. The Engineers used an 11-2 run early to take a 15-7 lead with 16:14 left and maintained that lead the rest of the way.

The Engineers started the second half on a 16-4 spurt over the first eight minutes to take a commanding 61-41 lead with 11:48 left.

Freshmen Mitchell Kates and Jimmy Burke each added 14 points for MIT while classmate Will Tashman had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Engineers.

Senior Eric Hudson led Coast Guard with 14 points while juniors Jevon James (13) and Adam Radtke (12), who led the team with five rebounds, also scored in double figure for the Bears.

MIT outrebounded the Bears 34-26.
