Tony Borruso earned NEFC All-Academic honors for the third straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/27/10)--Coast Guard Academy placed 14 student-athletes on the 2009 New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic team.

Four seniors were named to the team led by offensive lineman Tony Borruso (Government) and offensive lineman Dave Zwirblis (Management), who earned NEFC All-Academic honors for the third straight season. Senior wide receiver Chris Clark (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) was named for the second straight season and classmate running back Matt Keith (Management) was named to the team for the first time.

The Bears placed a trio of juniors on the team as linebacker Paul Junghans (Mechanical Engineering), quarterback Jesse Karr (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) and defensive lineman Ryan Schmid (Marine and Environmental Sciences) all earned a spot on the team for the second straight season.

Seven sophomores earned a spot on the All-Academic team for the Bears in their first year of eligibility. Defensive lineman Bobby Costolo (Operations Research and Computer Analysis), defensive lineman Paul Hahn-Rauch (Government), linebacker Kieron McCarthy (Civil Engineering), linebacker Nick Peters (Mechanical Engineering), defensive lineman Chris Shivock (Marine and Environmental Science), wide receiver Stephen Spotts (Mechanical Engineering) and running back Ryan Webster (Operations Research and Computer Analysis) rounded out the team for Coast Guard.

To earn a spot on the NEFC All-Academic team, a player must have completed three semesters at the same institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
