 Matt Leisy was one of three Bears to win all three matches at the New England Dual Championships. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/24/10)—Coast Guard, seeded 13th in the tournament, picked up its first win of the season at the New England Wresting Association’s Dual Meet Championship hosted by Springfield College. The Bears went 1-2 on the day and placed 13th overall.
Andy Snyder (157), Matt Leisy (165) and Will Stark (174) all went unbeaten winning all three matches in the tournament for the Bears.
The Bears won their final match of the afternoon, beating 14th-seeded WPI 49-6 for the first dual meet win of the season after losing the first eight matches of the season.
Andrew Armstrong (133), Fred Green (141), Curtis Hayes (149), Snyder (157) and Troy Robison (197) all won by pin while Leisy (165) won by major decision and Stark (174) won by decision for the Bears. Dan Periera (184) and Reese Mowrey (Hwt.) also picked up forfeit wins for Coast Guard.
Coast Guard led its opening match 18-11 after Stark won decision 12-8 at 174 pounds, but fourth-seeded Rhode Island College won the final three matches, two by pin for the victory.
Anthony Signorello picked up a forfeit win at 133 pounds, Green (141), Snyder (157) and Leisy (165) all picked up wins by decision against Rhode Island College.
In the Bears second match of the tournament, 12th-seeded Trinity beat the Bears by the same score 26-18.
Coast Guard again had a lead, 18-13, following a Stark win by decision at 174 pounds, but again the Bears dropped the final three matches, one by pin.
Armstrong won by pin at 133 pounds, Snyder pinned his opponent at 157 pounds while Leisy picked up another win by decision at 165 pounds in the loss to Trinity.
