NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/11/10)--Connecticut College squandered a 13-point lead before sophomore Demetrius Porter’s basket with 55 seconds left gave the Camels the lead for good in a 64-61 win over neighboring rival Coast Guard in a non-conference game between the two city schools at Conn. College's Luce Fieldhouse.

Coast Guard (4-8) took its first lead of the game 52-51 on a pair of free throws from junior Jevon James with 4:42 left.

Freshman Ed Gailor sank a 3-pointer with 3:27 left to break a 54-54 tie and give the Bears a 57-54 lead.

Junior Dean Lampe, who led the Camels with 20 points, scored with 2:18 left to cut the deficit to 57-56.

Coast Guard shot itself in the foot missing three straight free throws with a chance to increase the lead before the Porter hoop. The Bears were just three of eight from the line in the second half and six for 12 in the game.

Senior Eric Hudson scored and was fouled but missed the free throw which would have tied the game and the Bears trailed 60-59 with 27.9 seconds left.

Lampe made a pair of free throws with 22.8 seconds left for a 62-59 lead before Hudson cut the lead to 62-61 on a bucket with 17 seconds left.

Conn. College junior Mike Lehane missed the front end of a one-and-one, but freshman Rob Harrigan got the rebound and made two free throws with 10 seconds left for the 64-61 lead. Hudson missed a 3-pointer from the top of the key in the closing seconds as the Camels held on.

The Camels (6-6) led 43-31 with 17:54 before the Bears scored six straight making it 43-37 with 16:20 left. Coast Guard used another 6-0 run later in the half to tie the game 49-49 following a pair of free throws by James with 7:55 left.

Connecticut College used a 16-4 spurt to take its largest lead of the first half 34-21 with 3:58 left. Lampe accounted for eight of the Camels 16 points in the run. He was a perfect six for six from the field, including two of two from 3-point range to finish with 14 first half points. The Camels were six for 11 (54.5 percent) from 3-point range in the first half while shooting 50 percent from the floor.

The Bears cut the lead to 38-29 at halftime by scoring eight of the final 12 points of the half, six of those by freshman Greg Marshall.

Coast Guard got off to a slow start making just one of its first 12 field goal attempts falling behind 8-2 in the opening minutes. The Bears got as close as one at 18-17 following a 3-pointer by junior Adam Radtke with 8:33 left. Coast Guard shot 36.4 percent for the half (12-33) while making just two of 11 from 3-point range in the opening half. James had eight points and seven rebounds to lead the Bears in the first half.

James led the Bears with 17 points and 10 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the season, while freshman Greg Marshall finished with 11 points and Hudson and Gailor each had 10 points in the loss for Coast Guard.

Conn. Shot 40 percent from the field (22-55) while making eight of 19 from 3-point range. Coast Guard shot 42.4 percent (25-59) and made five of 19 from behind the arc.

Coast Guard beat Conn. College 73-60 earlier in the season in the Castle Classic at Manhattanville.
