NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/5/09)--Freshman Jeana Trimboli led all scorers with 24 points go to with her game-high six assists leading Wheaton to a 72-54 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Trimboli was eight for 13 from the field and six for 11 from 3-point range. She had 11 points in the first half as Wheaton led 38-25 at the break.
The Lyons (2-4, 1-1) used a 12-0 run in the first half turning a 17-15 lead with 9:23 left into a 29-15 advantage with 3:32 left. Trimboli scored the first five points in the 12-0 spurt.
Coast Guard (2-2, 1-1) would get as close as seven at 54-47 on a old fashion three-point play by freshman Karli Collins with 7:54 left, but that would be the Bears last field goal until 23 seconds left as Wheaton used a 15-1 run following the Collins hoop for a 69-48 lead with 4:08 left.
Senior Jenny Champney added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds as Wheaton snapped a four-game losing streak.
The Lyons shot 40 percent from the floor (26-65) and 10 for 27 from 3-point range (37 percent).

Senior Melissa Martinelli was held to a season-low eight points and had a game-high 10 rebounds. She moved into third place on the Bears all-time rebounding list with 727 rebounds. She passed Heather Wolf (‘99) who had 717 career rebounds.
Coast Guard shot a season-high 40.4 percent from the field (19-47) while also shooting a season-best 58.3 percent (7-12) from 3-point range.
