NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/21/09)--Freshman Allyson Dowen had a career-high 19 points leading four Wildcats in double figures as Johnson & Wales picked up its first win of the season with a 70-60 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.

The Wildcats shot 51.6 percent in the first half (16-31) and 46.6 percent for the game (27-58) while shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range (8-18).

Johnson & Wales (1-2) jumped out to a 12-4 lead and led by as many as nine at 17-8 with 12:34 left in the first half.

Coast Guard led by senior Melissa Martinelli’s 17 first half points chipped away at the lead and trailed 40-36 at halftime. Dowen led Johnson & Wales with 14 points in the first half.

The Wildcats took their largest lead of the game at 57-46 on a bucket by senior Jeniphr Moxley with 13:11 left. Coast Guard would get as close as five at 57-52 after a pair of free throws from freshman Karli Collins.

Senior Alexia Ramirez had 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds while Moxley and junior Morgan Wilson each added 13 points for Johnson & Wales.

Martinelli finished with a game-high 26 points to go with seven rebounds while Collins and freshman Vanessa Sillman each added nine points for Coast Guard. Collins had a game-high nine rebounds while senior Leslie Hunt had a game-high five assists.

Coast Guard shot 35 percent (21-60) from the floor while making two of nine from three-point range. The Bears outrebounded Johnson & Wales 45-31.
