Melissa Martinelli had 24 points and 11 rebounds in just 17 minutes.
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS.--(11/17/09)--Coast Guard outscored Wheelock 33-17 in the second half and senior Melissa Martinelli had game highs with 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Bears posted a 54-34 win on opening night and gave head coach Rick Gaines his first career win.

Martinelli, who had 15 points in the second half, was 10 of 14 from the floor in the game and did all her damage in just 17 minutes of play.

Freshman Karli Collins was also in double figures for the Bears as she finished with 12 points, 11 in the second half to go with eight rebounds. Senior Sabrina Taylor led the Bears with four assists while freshman Stacia Sarwinski had a game-high five steals.

Coast Guard shot 38.5 percent from the field (20-32) and connected on one of four from three-point range. The Bears made just 13 of 28 from the free throw line in the win.
