Coast Guard will host sixth-seeded Johnson & Wales on Wedneday at 7 p.m.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/9/09)--Coast Guard which reached the semifinals of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament for the ninth straight season has been selected as the third seed in the ECAC New England Division III Tournament.

Coast Guard is making its eighth postseason appearance in the last nine seasons and seventh in the ECAC tournament since 2001. The Bears, who missed postseason play last year with a 14-16 record, won the ECAC North Championship in 2002 and the ECAC New England Championship in 2005.

The Bears will host sixth-seeded Johnson & Wales in the first round on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Coast Guard beat Johnson & Wales 3-1 at the Western Connecticut Invitational in September. The Wildcats (25-13) were 11-1 and placed second in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season and they were the runners up in the GNAC tournament.

Top-seeded Plymouth State will host #8 Emmanuel, second-seeded Brandeis will host #7 Colby Sawyer and fourth-seeded WNEC will host fifth-seeded Endicott in the other first round matchups.

Coast Guard is 25-5 overall and the Bears were 6-3 in conference games and an impressive 18-1 in non-conference games this season, the one non-conference loss is to Brandeis, the second seed in this tournament.

Sophomore Nicole Johnson leads the team with 229 kills and 49 aces while freshman Lauren Bloch is second with 221 kills. Junior Jessica Anderson set a single-season school record with 476 digs while junior Hillary Adams leads the team with 55 blocks.

The Bears roster of 16 players includes eight freshmen and not one senior.
