 Tim Berry won a pair of individual events and was part of a winning relay to lead the Bears. NEW PALTZ, N.Y.--(11/07/09)--Coast Guard won 13 of the 14 events and broke four pool records to easily beat host SUNY New Paltz 167-92 in the first dual meet of the season.
Nine different swimmers won individual events with Timmy Berry and Matt Odom each winning a pair of events while the Bears won both relays.
Berry broke the pool record in the 100 backstroke (54.19) while also winning the 200 backstroke (1:58.28) while Odom set the pool record the 100 breaststroke (1:00.43) and also won the 200 IM (2:02.87).
Also for the Bears, Nicholas Poehler won the 1,000 freestyle (10:08.16), Brian McGuiness won the 200 freestyle (1:48.74), Kevin Smit won the 200 butterfly (2:00.57), Johnson Knox tied the 23-year old pool record in the 50 freestyle (21.70), Dan Beshoar won the 100 freestyle (49.31), Mike Carman won the 200 breaststroke (2:13.09) and Alex Brown won the 500 freestyle (4:56.55).
The 200 medley relay team of Berry, Odom, Beshoar and Knox broke the pool record with a time of 1:38.68 while the 400 freestyle relay team of Knox, Dan Alley, Eric Schwartz and Jason Helsabeck won with a time of 3:18.29. |
