Ryan Schmid earned first team All-Academic honors from CoSIDA.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/6/09)--Coast Guard Academy junior defensive lineman Ryan Schmid has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District I All-Academic College Division first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Schmid, who has a 3.8 GPA in Marine and Environmental Sciences is a starting defensive end and has 39 tackles, 29 solo and three for loss. He is a member of the International Council, Ski Club and the Toastmaster’s Club. Schmid has been on the Dean’s List all four semesters and he was named to the New England Football Conference All-Academic Team and the Commandant of Cadets List last year.

The Bears (3-5, 3-3) close the season this week at Framingham State.

To be nominated for inclusion on the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed to be eligible. No student-athlete is eligible until he or she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

All first team selections will now be placed on the national ballot.
