SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(10/31/09)--Jacob Larsen scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute leading Coast Guard to a 1-0 win over Springfield in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game, the regular season finale for both teams.

Springfield, 5-12-1, 1-5, will now enter the NEWMAC Tournament as the seventh seed, and will travel to take on second-seeded Wheaton College on Wednesday (Nov. 4). Coast Guard, which won its third straight conference game, 8-9, 3-3, earned the three seed and will take on sixth-seeded Clark.

Despite having a 14-12 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 edge in the first half, Springfield was unable to muster a goal for the ninth game this season. Coast Guard finished with an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.

The lone goal of the match came in the 80th minute off the foot of Larsen. He stepped over a a free kick from just outside the box and ripped his attempt that deflected off a Springfield defender and into the upper corner of the goal.

Tim Olah recorded five saves to earn the shutout win, while Chris Walton made four saves on the way to the loss.
