NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/27/09)--The Lyons scored three goals in a three minute span of the first half as Mount Holyoke clinched a spot in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament with a 9-2 win over Coast Guard in the regular season finale.

The Lyons (4-11-1, 3-5-1) will play on the road in the first round of the conference tournament on Saturday.

Senior Jesse Sugrue started the scoring in the 18th minute with classmate Perry Markell assisting for the 1-0 lead.

Senior Lauren Orr scored a pair of goals just 1:36 apart before a penalty kick just 1:24 later by Markell gave the Lyons a comfortable 4-0 lead with 21:37 left in the first half.

Freshman Elizabeth Kenis scored her first career goal to get Coast Guard on the board in the 29th minute before a header by Mary Cooke for Mount Holyoke closed the first half scoring.

Sugrue, sophomore Courtney Carrier, freshman Brooke Winter-Potter and sophomore Emily Lomax all tallied second half goals for Mount Holyoke.

Senior Katie Kurek, playing in her final game, scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season and the 33rd of her collegiate career in the second half.

Mount Holyoke outshot Coast Guard 18-5.

Freshman Ingibjorg Magnusdottir did not need to make a save to record the win in goal for the Lyons.

Coast Guard (2-14, 0-9) dropped its tenth straight to close the season.
