 Kiley Johnson led the Bears with 13 digs in the win over Bay Path. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/26/09)--Coast Guard, ranked sixth in the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll, ran its home winning streak to 25 and remained unbeaten by sweeping a pair of matches. The Bears beat Lesley 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-19) and Bay Path 3-0 (25-3, 25-10, 25-8).
Coast Guard (11-0) has now won 25 straight home matches dating back to the 2007 season and the Bears are off to their best start since 1997 when the team also started 11-0. The school-record for most wins to start a season is 16 set in 1995.
In the opening match of the day, the Bears beat Lesley as freshman Keriann Mason had eight kills and seven digs, junior Jessica Anderson had a team-high 11 digs. Junior Hillary Adams added six kills while freshman Karen Matic led the way with 19 assists.
Lesley (3-8) beat Bay Path 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-21) in the second match of the day as sophomore Kaitlyn Wechsler led the way with five kills and freshman Kaitlyn Miller had a team-high 25 assists.
In the final match of the afternoon, freshman Catherine Walker had six kills and three aces, sophomore Katharine Martorelli had three kills and five digs and sophomore Kiley Johnson had a team-high 13 digs to go with three aces as Coast Guard beat Bay Path (0-11).
