NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/16/09)--Senior Spencer Ross scored a goal and assisted on another leading host Coast Guard to a 5-0 win over Mitchell in a non-conference game between the two New London schools.
Senior Jacob Larsen registered his first goal of the season on blast from 30 yards out in the 31st minute to break the scoreless tie. Ross tallied his first goal of the season in the 40th minute on a header off a rebound as the Bears led 2-0 at halftime.
Sophomore Anthony Walker took a pass from Nick Devine and buried it in the net in the 57th minute to increase the Coast Guard lead to 3-0.
The Bears used an own goal in the 70th minute before sophomore Kevin Noll’s first goal of the season, a header, off an assist from Ross closed the scoring.
Coast Guard (3-2) snaps a two-game losing streak on the season and improves to 5-0 all time against Mitchell (1-3).
Senior Tim Olah (one save) and sophomore Sean Newmeyer (2 saves) combined on the shutout for Coast Guard while sophomore Kevin Woodford had eight saves in goal for the Mariners, who played a man down for over 67 minutes after sophomore John Gleason, who leads Mitchell with three goals on the season, got his second yellow card and a red card in the 23rd minute.
