NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/14/09)--Senior Katie Kurek tied a school-record with three goals, all in the first 13 minutes of the game, as Coast Guard won its first game of the season by scoring a school-record seven goals to beat Massachusetts Maritime 7-0 in a non-conference game.

Kurek scored in the 10th minute, then 57 seconds later in the 11th minute and again in the 13th minute for a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Shannah Shelton, sophomore Brittany Fifer and freshman Katie Romas each added assists on Kurek’s goals which increase her team leading total to six this season.

She becomes the fourth Coast Guard player to score a hat trick in the 10-year history of the program. Olivia Grant did it in 2001 while Hillary Allegretti accomplished the feat twice in the 2003 season.

Freshman Lydia Roets scored a pair of goals, the first two of her career, in just over a minute at 19:24 and then again at 20:35 for a 5-0 lead. Shelton and Romas each had an assist for the Bears.

Shelton scored her first goal of the season just 2:14 into the second half with sophomore Erin Nolan adding the assist.

Romas netted her first career goal in the 75th minute to close the scoring.

Coast Guard (1-4) outshot Mass. Maritime 31-1.

Freshman Kim Courcy had four saves in goal while classmate Rachel Johnson made 12 saves for the Buccaneers, who drop to 0-4 on the season.

Sophomore Mary Mills needed to make just one save to record the shutout for Coast Guard.
