Men's Outdoor Track - Luxhoj Named NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Year

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/28/09)--Coast Guard Academy sophomore Carl Luxhoj was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Year for the NEWMAC Championship that was held on Saturday at Mount Holyoke, while the men’s team won the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award for the third straight season in voting by the leagues six head coaches.
Luxhoj won both the long jump (23-0.5) and triple jump (48-4.5) leading the Bears to a fourth place finish at the NEWMAC Championships.
He has already automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships, to be held at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio on May 21-23. He qualified in the triple jump with a leap of 48 feet, nine inches, which is a school record and is currently third in the nation in Division III.
Luxhoj has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the long jump, his best jump this season was a school-record leap of 23 feet, 1.75 inches.
