NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/27/09)--Junior Matt Sullivan was 5 for 5 with a double, grand slam and five runs scored leading defending national champion Trinity, ranked sixth nationally, to a 13-3 win over Coast Guard, in the Bears final home game of the season.
The Bantams scored twice in the second on an RBI single by freshman Sam Simons and and a bases loaded walk to junior Jack Abbott. Three straight doubles by juniors Kent Graham, James Woods and Sullivan highlighted a three-run fourth for a 5-0 lead.
Sullivan’s grand slam in the sixth gave Trinity a 10-1 lead.
Graham and classmate Joe Markovich each had two hits while Simons and freshman Alex LiDonni each had a hit and two RBI’s as the Bantams pounded out 16 hits.
Junior Jason Simoni (2-0) worked the 4th, 5th and 6th innings, allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out four to pickup the win.
Coast Guard freshman starter Chris Martin (0-2) worked 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.
Trinity (25-4) used five different pitchers allowing seven hits, walking four and fanning 13 batters.
The Bears (6-23) scored on an RBI single by freshman Joe Petry in the third before adding two runs in the eighth as sophomore Jared Korn was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and senior Kevin Keefe drew a bases loaded walk.
