NEW LONDON, CONN.—-Sophomore Stacia Sarwinski’s first career home run, a two-run shot, highlighted a six-run fourth and junior All-American Hayley Feindel fired a two-hitter, her 50th career shutout, leading top-seeded Coast Guard to an 8-0 five-inning win over fourth-seeded Babson in the losers’ bracket final of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball tournament.

Coast Guard moves onto the championship round to take on second-seeded Springfield, the only team to beat the Bears this season.

Feindel did not walk a batter and struck out ten moving into second place on the NCAA Division III all-time strikeouts list as she finished the game with 1,127 career strikeouts and improved to 32-2 on the season.

Sarwinski belted her first career home run, a two-run shot, to center in the fourth as the Bears extended the lead to 4-0 before freshman Devin Fellman’s RBI single made the score 5-0 and chased Babson starter and losing pitcher freshman Christina Miquel (8-3).

Junior Maddie Buchert greeted reliever sophomore Megan Brain with a two-run double and Amanda Frederick followed with an RBI double as the Bears took an 8-0 lead.

Sophomore Holli Bastinck hit a line drive homer to left center with two outs in the first to give Coast Guard a 2-0 lead, the runs were the Bears first two earned runs of the tournament.
