Men's Outdoor Track - Luxhoj Wins NEWMAC Honor for Third Straight Week
Carl Luxhoj won NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Week honors for the third straight week.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/20/09)--Coast Guard Academy sophomore Carl Luxhoj has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Luxhoj took first place and set new school records in both the long jump and the triple jump this week as Coast Guard won the 14-team Silfen Invitational.
His triple jump was won with a leap of 48 feet 9 inches. The previous record of 48 feet 1.75 inches was held by Bruce Platz which was set in 1970. In addition to the school record, his mark is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Luxhoj is currently ranked 2nd in the country in the triple jump and he also broke his own school record in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet 1.75 inches.
