Carl Luxhoj set a pair of school record and qualified for the NCAA Championships as the Bears won the Silfen Invitational.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/18/09)--Sophomore Carl Luxhoj took first place and set new school records in both the long jump and the triple jump as Coast Guard won the 14-team Silfen Invitational with 291.5 points.

Luxhoj's triple jump was won with a leap of 48 feet 9 inches. The previous record of 48’ 1.75” was held by Bruce Platz which was set in 1970. In addition to the school record, his mark is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships to be held at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio on May 21-23.

He is currently ranked 2nd in the country in the triple jump and he also broke his own school record in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet 1.75 inches.

Other event winners were Pat Fernandez in the 800 meters (1:56.85), Mike Haas in the 1,500 meters (4:04.58), Zach Hennighausen in the 5000 meters (15:33.25), Kevin O’Brien in the 10,000 meters (33:25.94), Kyle Coleman (56.23) in the 400 hurdles, Jordan Kellam in the pole vault 14 feet, 6.25 inches, Carl Stokes in the discus 144 feet, 4 inches and Pat Page in the hammer 136 feet, 10 inches.

The 4x100 relay team won with a time of 44.34 run by Matt Tolliver, Josh Wofford, Dan Lagdon, and Pat Bennett, and the men’s 4x800 relay also finished first with a time of 8:16.37 run by Pat Fernandez, Matt Hurtt, Dan Miller and Brett Morris.
