Courtney Wolf set the Bears' career home run record in the sweep of MIT.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(4/17/09)--Junior Courtney Wolf hit a pair of homeruns breaking the Bears' career-record and freshman Hayley Feindel fired a one-hitter in the opener and pitched nine scoreless innings over two games to help No. 22 Coast Guard run its win streak to 26 and clinch at least a tie for its first ever New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season as the Bears swept MIT 9-0 in six innings and 11-1 in five innings.

With the losses MIT falls to 6-19 overall and 3-11 in conference play. Coast Guard improves to 30-2 and remains unbeaten in the NEWMAC at 13-0. The Bears, who host Springfield in a doubleheader tomorrow, can clinch its first NEWMAC regular season championship with one win or one Wellesley loss against Smith, those teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow.

Wolf hit her league-high 11th and 12th homers of the season giving her 17 for her career breaking the Coast Guard career mark of 16 set by Suzie Van der Veer ('02).

The Cardinal and Grey got into trouble in the third inning of game one, as three errors opened the door for four runs by the visitors in the frame. Sophomore Amanda Frederick picked up an RBI during the run with a single up the middle that scored senior Annette Boston.

Coast Guard added three more in the fifth on a pair of RBI doubles. Sophomore Becky Miller plated two runs with her hit to left-centerfield. Freshman Jamie Kim followed that with a ground-rule double to score Miller. Wolf would add a run in the sixth with her first round-tripper of the day.

Tech managed just one hit off Feindel, who threw the complete game shutout and struck out eight. Jessica Oleinik took the loss for the hosts, surrendering three earned runs on eight hits.

Coast Guard's offense was equally effective in the second game, as the Bears scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings. Frederick helped lead the way, going four-for-four with four RBI and two runs scored. Wolf's second homerun came in the first inning of game two, a two-run shot.

MIT starter Abby Van Hook lasted just two and one-third innings, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits. Oleinik helped stop the bleeding, allowing just three hits and no earned runs over the final two and two-thirds.

Feindel retired the first nine hitters she faced before being replaced by Nicole Black, who worked the final two innings for the win, her fifth of the season against no losses.
