Boston, MA--(4/13/09)--The Coast Guard Academy Women's Sailing Team finished 7th out of 13 teams at the President's Trophy hosted by Boston University on the Charles River. Despite cold, rainy and at times miserable conditions, the race committee completed a full rotation, getting in all 13 races in each division. In A-Division, Krysta Rohde '11 and Elise Maher '11 finished 8th with 99 teams. In B-Division, Jenn Proctor '11 and Margaret Woodbridge '10 finished 5th with 71 points. Proctor and Woodbridge also won four out of the 13 races sailed, the most wins in their division. Next weekend the Women's Team will compete at the Emily Wick/Sloop Shrew Trophy at the Coast Guard Academy, which is a promotional event for 2009 that attracted 20 teams from all over the country.

The Coed Sailing Team also competed in Boston at the Friis/Marchiando Team Race hosted by Tufts and MIT. The young Coast Guard team struggled against other team's more experienced squads. Although the Bears sailed hard in close races all the way to the finish, each race ultimately was won by the opponent and the Bears suffered an 0-14 record for the weekend. Sailing for CGA were Sam Ingham '11, Jon Duffet '11, Ian Oviatt '10, Chris Grabe '10, Cezar Gomez '10, and Tanya Cuprak '11. The team will look to learn from the experiences gained this past weekend and move forward to the Coed New England Championship next weekend. That event will be hosted by Boston College and Harvard University on Boston Harbor.

Also, at the Admiral Alymers trohpy hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the Bears finished 10th out of 12 teams. Sailing for the Bears were Geoff Single '10, Amanda Hamlet '12, Andrew Gavelek '12, and Claire Miller '12.
