United States Coast Guard Academy - Department of Athletics - Intercollegiate Sailing

New London, CT--(4/6/09)--The Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College co-hosted one of the biggest and most competitive team race regattas of the spring season the past weekend, the Southern New England Team Race.

18 teams from across the country traveled to New London to battle it out on the Thames River. Shifty breeze that ranged from 5-25 knots and 2 knots of current made for very difficult but exciting team racing. The Coast Guard team sailed well against some of the top teams in the country but lost some very close races, finishing the regatta 16th overall. Sailing for the Bears were Ian Oviatt '10, Sam Ingham '11, Jon Duffet '11, Chris Grabe '10, Jenn Hom '09, Cezar Gomez '10, and Tanya Cuprak '11.

Also this past weekend, at the Brad Dellenbaugh Women's Intersectional at Brown University, the CGA Women's Team finished 14th out of 16. Krysta Rohde '11 and Kirstin Haas '10 finished 13th in A-Division with 154 points. Jenn Proctor '11 and Margaret Woodbridge '10 finished 15th in B-Division with 159 points.

On Saturday, at the Southern Series hosted by Salve Regina University, the Bears finished 9th out of 19 teams. Geoff Single '10 and Elise Maher '11 finished 8th in A-Division with 63 points. Will Cotta '11 and Kristen Holloway '12 finished 9th in B-Division with 64 points.
