Men's Crew - Bears Battled Poor Conditions in Coventry Print E-mail
COVENTRY, CONN.--(4/4/09)--The Bears faced strong competition in poor weather conditions at Lake Conventry.

In the men’s first varsity eight race, Coast Guard finished 3rd behind Trinity and Marist, beating UConn in a time of 6:01.7. Andrew Slater (Jr), coxed the shell, rowed by Andrew Haley (Sr), Nick Ianarone (Sr), Tomas Nojokitis (Sr), Dan Swaim (Jr), Phil Constantino (Jr), Kris Kesting (Jr), Tom Olsen (Jr), Sam Merrit (Jr).

By the 2nd Varisty eight race, white caps were forming over the last 1000 meters of the race course. The 2V8, finished 3rd behind two Trinity boats, in a time of 6:09.0. Coxin Courntey Elder (So), was join by John Olbrys (So), Austin King (So), Brian Kelly (Sr), Bryan Bonomi (So), Tomas Mamaniskis (Sr), Roy Cromer (Sr), Joe Direnzo (Jr), and James Heuser (Jr).

The men’s novice 8 finished 4th behind two Trinity boats and Marist, beating UConn. Finishing in a time of 6:32.3, the boat consisted of Jake Conrad, Colin Schembri, Bo Wowtschuk, Steve Atwell, George Greendyke, Erich Dix, Tyler Patrick, Nick Cosenza, and Will Rimmler, all members of the Class of 2012.

In the final race of the morning, the Varsity 4 saw breaking waves and white caps over the 2000m course. Completing the course in a time of 7:16.2, Cox’n Bailea McMillen (So), stroke Evan Steckle (Jr), James Heuser (Jr),Billy Campbell (Fr), Chris Bodner (Fr) finished 3rd behind Trinity and Marist.

Coast Guard travels north to Lowell, MA next weekend to face Colby and UMass-Lowell.
