COVENTRY, CONN.--(4/4/09)--Coast Guard faced stiff competition in even stiffer wind, racing UConn (DI), Marist (DI) and 2008 DIII National Champion, Trinity.

Racing was moved up to an earlier time to try to fit the racing in before the winds prevented canceling the regatta. In the first race of the morning, Coast Guard’s 1V battled down the course, but finished 4th in a time of 7:00. The 1V consisted of Cate Gillen (Sr), Kelli Normolye (Fr), Maggie Ward (Sr), Rachel Thomas (Fr), Sarah Jane Otey (So), Kate Dacimo (So), Holly Madden (Fr), Sarah Thompson (Sr), and Rory Keegan (Sr).

By the second varsity race, the wind had picked up and white caps began forming on the second 1000m of the race course. For the second straight week, the 2V consisted mostly of Novice rowers. Christa Funk (Fr) once again coxed the boat, this week stroked by Katie Ward (Fr). They were joined by Tiffany Zehnle (Fr), Alyssa Van Delden (Sr), Emily Balingit-Clark (Fr), Erin Nolan (Fr), Yahiara Cervantes (Jr), Rachel Douglas (Jr), and Juliana Harvin (Fr), finishing fourth in a time of 7:27.

The weather continued to deteriorate, but the decision was made to continue with the Novice 4 race. Sarah Troch (Fr), led Katie Preising (Fr), Christine Roselli (Fr), Tara Mead (Fr) and Beki Redstone (So) down the choppy waters, finishing 3rd in a time of 8:40.

Coast Guard heads north to Lowell, Mass. next weekend to take on Colby and UMass-Lowell.
