WORCESTER, MASS.--(3/28/09)--The Bears posted a strong performance in the season opener dual race against New England rival Wesleyan. In the men’s first varsity race, Coast Guard was in control of the race until Wesleyan finished with a strong sprint narrowly beating Coast Guard by 1.3 seconds.
The 1V, finishing in a time of 6:09.6, was rowed by Andrew Haley (Sr), Nick Ianarone (Sr), Tomas Nojokitis (Sr), Dan Swaim (Jr), Phil Constantino (Jr), Kris Kesting (Jr), Tom Olsen (Jr), Sam Merrit (Jr), Andrew Slater (Jr).
The 2V, solidly beat Wesleyan by 12 seconds. Cox’n Courntey Elder (So), was joined by John Olbrys (So), Austin King (So), Brian Kelly (Sr), Bryan Bonomi (So), Tomas Mamaniskis (Sr), Roy Cromer (Sr), Joe Direnzo (Jr), and Dan Halsig (Sr), finishing in a winning time of 6:30.9.
The men’s novice 8 raced against Wesleyan’s 3rd Varsity 8. Finishing in a time of 6:56.3, they beat Wesleyan by three boat lengths of open water.
The boat consisted of Jake Conrad, Colin Schembri, Bo Wowtschuk, Steve Atwell, George Greendyke, Erich Dix, Tyler Patrick, Nick Cosenza, and Will Rimmler, all members of the Class of 2012.
