 Pat Fernandez won the 800 and 1,500 meters for the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/28/09)--Pat Fernandez won the 800 meters (2:00.21) and the 1,500 meters (4:02.55) and Carl Luxhoj won both the long jump (23-1.25) an the triple jump (46-5.25) as host Coast Guard captured a tri-meet.
Luxhoj's long jump mark of 23'1.25" is a season best, a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Champsionships, and a new outdoor school record surpassing Colwyn Sayer's mark of 22'11" from 2002.
Coast Guard won the meet with 171.5 points, Westfield State was second with 131 points while Springfield was third with 93.5 points.
Kyle Coleman won the 400 meter hurdles (56.89), Jordan Kellam won the pole vault (13-3) and Carl Stokes won the discus (141-08).
Coast Guard took the top four spots in the high jump as John Jaskot with with a jump of 6-1.25. Tyler Ashner was second (6-1.25), Coleman third (5-11.25) and Jevon James fourth (5-7.25).
The Bears 4x400 meter relay team of David Boyle, Josh Wofford, Coleman and Thomas Adams won with a time of 3:27.03.
Mike Haas was second in the 5,000 meters (15:29.65), Mike Gordon was second in the pole vault (11-9)and Stokes was second in the shot put
(41-3.75).
