 Ryan Milligan had five hits and five RBIs in the doubleheader sweep of Clark. WORCESTER, MASS.--(3/28/09)--Junior Ryan Milligan's two-run single in the top of the eighth broke a 4-4 tie as the Bears overcame a 4-0 deficit to beat Clark 6-4 in the opener. The Bears fell behind 5-0 in game two and rallied for a 6-5 win and a sweep of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader.
In the opener, the Bears (6-11, 2-2) scored four times in the fifth to tie the game. Freshman Nic Freburg had an RBI triple, Milligan had an RBI single and junior Keith Laird tied the game with a sacrifice fly scoring freshman Joe Petry, who had singled.
Senior Pete Schofield (3-1) picked up the win scattering eight hits and allowing two earned runs while walking two and striking out two as the Bears snapped an eight-game losing streak.
In game two, sophomore Jesse Karr gave up four runs in the first inning, but settled down allowing just one run and three hits over the final six innings to pickup the win.
The Bears trailed 5-0 after three innings, but used some fifth inning magic once again as they scored three times in the fifth on an RBI single by Milligan, which plated two runs thanks to an interference call, and an RBI single by Petry.
Coast Guard scored once in the sixth as Milligan once again delivered an RBI single scoring senior Brian Yurovich, who led off with a double.
In the seventh and final inning, Petry led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by senior Bill Birch and Milligan's grounder with the bases loaded was booted scoring Yurovich with the go ahead run.
Karr allowed just a walk in the seventh to nail down the win.
Milligan was 5 for 8 on the day with five RBI's. He had two hits and three RBI's in the opener.
Petry had four hits, two in each game, junior John Jeffares and Freburg each had two hits in the opener.
Yurovich and Birch each had two hits in the nightcap. |
