Softball - Feindel Fires No-Hitter; Bears Run Win Streak to 10
Colleen Denny had two hits in the opener and a three-run triple in the first inning of game two.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/23/09)--Freshman Hayley Feindel fired a no-hitter in the opener and classmate Nicole Black threw a three-hit shutout in game two as Coast Guard swept Salve Regina 8-0 in six innings and 10-0 in five innings in a non-conference doubleheader.
Coast Guard (14-2) runs its win streak to ten, its longest winning streak since winning ten in a row in 2003.
In the opener, Feindel (11-1) walked two and struck out six recording her first collegiate no-hitter and sixth shutout of the season. She extended her streak of not allowing an earned run to 30.3 innings. Feindel has now pitched 26 consecutive scoreless innings.
Coast Guard got all the runs it would need in the third as junior Carin Sweeney led off with a single, stole second and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Amanda Frederick. The Bears had four consecutive singles in the inning by senior Jeannie Crump, Frederick, junior Courtney Wolf and senior Colleen Denny and they took advantage of two errors to take a 3-0 lead.
Crump was 4 for 5 with an RBI in the win while Denny added two hits and a run scored.
In the nightcap, freshman Nicole Black (2-0) allowed just three singles, didn’t walk a batter and struck out three to pick up the win.
Denny’s three-run triple highlighted a four-run first and Wolf’s two-run homer capped a three-run second as the Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Wolf scored three runs in game two while sophomore Allison Majcher drove in a pair with a two-run single in the fourth, which closed the scoring.
