Newport, RI--(3/23/08)--The Coast Guard Academy Women's Sailing Team finished 5th out of 19 teams at the Veitor Trophy hosted by Salve Regina University. On Saturday, teams were greeted with sunny skies, cold temperatures, and a beautiful Northerly breeze that allowed for great racing. The race committee was able to get off four races in each division before the northerly died and racing was cancelled for the day. On Sunday the breeze was much shiftier and inconsistent which made for tricky sailing on Naragansett Bay. Six more races per division were sailed. Krysta Rohde '11 and Kirstin Haas '10 sailed A Division. Jenn Proctor '11 and Margaret Woodbridge '10 sailed B Division.
At the Team Race Invite sailed at Coast Guard, the Bears sailed to a victory over Vermont and Tufts, losing only one race throughout the day. The team consisted of Sam Ingham '11, Jon Duffet '11, Ian Oviatt '10, Jenn Hom '09, Tanya Cuprak '11, and Cezar Gomez '10.
At the Providence College Invite, the bears finished 3rd overall out of 7 teams. Will Cotta '11 and Kristen Holloway '12 finished 2nd in A Division. Chris Grabe '10 and Amanda Hamlet '12 finished 5th in B Division.
Next weekend the team travels to Boston, MA for the Boston Dinghy Club Cup hosted by MIT and Harvard, to Kings Point, NY for the Owen Trophy hosted by the Merchant Marine Academy, and to Newport, RI for the Southern Series 2 hosted by Salve Regina University. |
