United States Coast Guard Academy - Department of Athletics - Women's Basketball - Martinelli Earns Pair of All-Region Honors

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/23/09)--Junior Melissa Martinelli, who led the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in scoring this season, earned a pair of All-region honors.

Martinelli earned first team All-Northeast Region honors from D3hoops.com for the second straight season and she was named a second team All-Region selection by the New England Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (NEWBA).

Martinelli, a first team All-conference selection for the second straight season, led the NEWMAC in scoring with 19.8 points per game, she was third in field goal percentage (.531), fifth in rebounding (8.9) and sixth in free throw percentage (.780).

The 2006-2007 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Martinelli, had ten double-doubles this season, she had 12 games with 20 or more points and she scored 30 or more points four times this year.

She became the 7th player to join the Coast Guard women’s basketball 1,000 point club this season. She is currently third all-time with 1,367 points and fourth in school history with 693 rebounds.
