Brian Yurovich homered and drove in the go ahead run in the Bears nine-run fifth inning in game two.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/22/09)--Coast Guard rallied from an eight-run deficit and took the lead before losing 16-13 in game two of a doubleheader with Castleton State. The Spartans won the opener 10-0.

Junior Ken Cook allowed just one hit in five innings work while striking out three to get the win in the opener while senior Rob Turner allowed a pair of hits in two innings of relief.

The Spartans scored in six of the seven innings in the opener and finished with 14 hits and took advantage of five Coast Guard errors.

Freshman Joe Petry (1-1) worked five innings allowing nine runs, just four earned while striking out two, in taking the loss.

Sophomore Dan Conley was 4 for 5 with three RBI’s in the win.



In game two, Castleton State (3-6) scored six times in the top of the fifth for a 12-4 lead before Coast Guard scored nine times in the home half on 10 hits to take a 13-12 lead.

Freshman Eddie Kalankiewicz’s three-run double tied the game at 12-12 before senior Brian Yurovich, who hit a two-run homer earlier in the inning, drove in Kalankiewicz on an RBI single for a 13-12 lead.

The Spartans tied the game in the sixth on an RBI triple by junior Matt Eisenhuth, who later scored on an RBI single by freshman David Raczka for a 14-13 lead. Castleton State added two insurance runs in the seventh.

Freshman Kenny McIlroy (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he worked 2 1/3 inning and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out six.

Kalankiewicz (0-2) took the loss in relief for Coast Guard.

Junior Ted Mills was 4 for 5 with three RBI’s while Raczka and sophomore Mitch Thresher each drove in three runs for the Spartans in game two.

Kalankiewicz, Yurovich and senior Kevin Keefe each had two hits in game two for Coast Guard (4-9), which has now dropped six straight.

Yurovich drove in four runs while Keefe had a pair of RBIs in game two.
