 Hayley Feindel tossed a pair of shutouts in her NEWMAC debut. NORTON, MASS.--(3/21/09)--Freshman Hayley Feindel threw a pair of shutouts as Coast Guard swept New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Wheaton 6-0 and 5-0 to open conference play.
Feindel (9-1) fired a four-hit shutout while walking one and striking out 11 in the opener.
Coast Guard (10-2, 2-0) got the only run it would need as as freshman Maddie Buchert's RBI single plated its first run in the second as the Bears took a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Amanda Frederick, senior Colleen Denny and sophomore Becky Miller, who all had two hits in the game one win, all had RBI hits in the fifth as Coast Guard took a 5-0 lead.
Frederick added her second RBI double of the game in the sixth for the final margin. Senior Annette Boston also had two hits in the opener.
In the second game, Feindel, the reigning NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week, tossed a two-hit shutout while striking out eight.
Junior Courtney Wolf put Coast Guard up a run in the third with an RBI double before another run scored on an error.
The Bears got three insurance runs in the top of the seventh as Frederick had her third RBI double of the day, Miller added an RBI single and freshman Jamie Kim followed with an RBI single.
Senior Jeannie Crump was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Wolf doubled twice, Frederick had two hits and two runs, while Kim added a pair of hits for the Bears, who have won six straight.
