 Melissa Martinelli, who led the NEWMAC in scoring, earned a spot on the All-conference first team for the second straight season. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/3/09)--Junior Melissa Martinelli has been named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball first team for the second straight season in voting by the league’s ten head coaches.
Martinelli led the conference in scoring with 19.8 points per game, she was third in field goal percentage (.531), fifth in rebounding (8.9) and sixth in free throw percentage (.780).
The 2006-2007 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Martinelli, had ten double-doubles this season, she had 12 games with 20 or more points and she scored 30 or more points four times this year.
Martinelli became the 7th player to join the Coast Guard women’s basketball 1,000 point club this season. She is currently third all-time with 1,367 points and fourth in school history with 693 rebounds.
The Bears were 5-21 this season and 4-9 in conference play.
Springfield senior Corey Finch was named Player of the Year while Judy Blinstrub, who led Babson to the NEWMAC Tournament championship earned Coach of the Year honors. |
