Timmy Berry had an outstanding meet in the win over Merchant Marine to earn NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/26/09)--Coast Guard’s Timmy Berry has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Swimmer of the Week.

Berry had a huge meet against rival Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday as he set the pool record in the 100 backstroke, won the 200 backstroke and the 200 IM and was part of the 200 medley relay team which also set a pool record as Coast Guard handed the Mariners their first dual meet loss of the season 179-121 as the Bears improved to 6-2 in dual meets this season.

Berry’s time of 53.30 in the 100 backstroke broke the pool record set by former Coast Guard All-American and national champion Bob Hueller (53.54) while the medley relay team of Berry, Sauve, Jim Okorn and Johnson Knox posted a time of 1:35.93 breaking the record of 1:40.05 set in 2001 by Coast Guard.

The junior posted a winning time of 1:55.55 in the 200 backstroke and 1:59.14 in the 200 IM and earned NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time.
