 Alyse Marquinez was one of three double winners as the Bears won easily over Merchant Marine. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/24/09)--Sarah-Jane Otey, Sam Sworden and Alyse Marquinez led a dominating performance for Coast Guard as the Bears easily beat rival Merchant Marine 168-89.
Otey won the 100 freestyle (56.00) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:18.35), Sworden won the 100 backstroke (1:04.83) and the 200 backstroke (2:21.46) while Marquinez won the 1-meter diving (187.95) and the 3-meter diving events (184.70) for the Bears.
Also for Coast Guard, Kim Shadwick won the 200 freestyle (1:58.16), Krystyna Vihonski won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.94), Katie Schumacher won the 200 butterfly (2:31.93), Heidi Gayman won the 50 freestyle (25.46) and the 200 medley relay team of Shadwick, Vihonski, Sworden and Gayman won with a time of 1:55.53.
Coast Guard is now 4-4-1 overall on the season and combined with the men’s win over the Mariners, the overall score for the Superintendent’s Trophy, contested for each season between Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine Academy, is now tied at 4-4.
